There is a dedicated, secure wireless network for students  – KC-BYOD. This is the wireless service you should look out for in any College location.

Before joining the wireless network please read the system specification and the fair usage policy.

Wireless Network Fair Usage and Security Policy

Please Note: You are required to read the IT Code of ConductThe most common offences are listed below:

  • Peer to peer software, for example BitTorrent
  • Any unlawful, criminal, fraudulent or otherwise illegal purposes or activities
  • Activities which breach the rights of any third party, such as the downloading, streaming or distribution of any copyrighted material of any kind
  • Collecting, streaming, distributing or accessing any material which you know, or reasonably should know, cannot be legally collected, streamed, distributed or accessed
  • Creating a wireless hot spot

Any student found to be in breach of these, may enact the college’s student disciplinary procedure and action may be taken against you.

Wireless Basic PC requirements

  • Your PC must have a wireless connection
  • Your PC must have one of the following operating systems:
    • Windows Vista with Service Pack 2
    • Windows 7 with Service Pack 1
    • Windows 8/8.1
    • Windows 10
    • Mac OSX 10.3 or higher
    • Linux (this may work but it is unsupported by Kendal College)
  • Your PC must have up to date security patches and anti-virus installed.

Please note: KC-BYOD will not work on the following operating systems:

  • Windows XP with Service Pack 1 or 2
  • Windows 95, 98 and ME
  • Windows NT
  • Mac OSX less than 10.3

 

Wireless for new students (1st years)

How to join the wireless.

  1. Check your emails. We will send you an email containing the password to join KC-BYOD
  2. On your device, search for available wireless networks
  3. Select ‘KC-BYOD
  4. Enter the password from your email
  5. Open a browser
  6. You will be directed to log on page, enter your network credentials (eg. SmithJ15)

You will only need to enter the password from the email once, but each day you will need to sign in with your network credentials.

 

Wireless for returning students

The password used last year will now of expired on your device and you will need to enter a new password to join KC-BYOD. This will rarey across different operating system. Select from the list below for help.

Once you have removed the expired password, follow the instructions below.

  1. Check your emails. We will send you an email containing the password to join KC-BYOD
  2. On your device, search for available wireless networks
  3. Select ‘KC-BYOD
  4. Enter the password from your email
  5. Open a browser
  6. You will be directed to log on page, enter your network credentials (eg. SmithJ15)

 

Forgetting KC-BYOD on your device

Forgetting Wifi setting in Windows

  1. Start Network and Sharing Center.
  2. In the Tasks pane, click Manage wireless networks.
  3. Right-click the connection you want to delete, and then click Remove network.
  4. In the Manage Wireless Networks – Warning dialog box, click OK.

Forgetting Wifi setting in Mac OS

  1. Select the WiFi symbol along the top menu bar and click on Open Network Preferences at the bottom of the drop down menu.
  2. Click on WiFi in the menu on the left and click Advanced located at the bottom right of the pop-up window.
  3. Select KC-BYOD, and click the minus sign. Click OK.

 

Forgetting Wifi settings in iOS (iPhone/iPad)

  1. Open the Settings app and head to “Wi-Fi” settings
  2. Look for KC-BYOD, then tap on the (i) info button
  3. Tap “Forget this Network” then confirm to drop the network from the list by tapping on “Forget”

Forgetting Wifi settings in Android

  1. Select Wi-Fi settings in the setting menu.
  2. Select KC-BYOD
  3. Choose the Forget option
