What is Work Placement?

Your work experience should form a valuable part of your learning programme and provide you with opportunities to develop your skills, which will support you in your future career.

Industry Placement

This placement is for around 45 days and supports students within the working environment.

During this placement you would work as a member of a team, working towards targets and deadlines which will support you in your learning. You will have scheduled progress reviews throughout your placement, which would generally be at the start, mid-way through and upon completion.

Work Placement

This placement is for 35 hours and this provides you with a brief insight into a company. This is also a great way to have a taster of working in the industry.
Work placement enables you to explore the careers linked to the academic or vocational subjects you are studying and can support with your choice of careers, employment and further or higher education.

Introducing GoFar

Kendal College will be using a new work placement system called “Grofar” to assist with this years work experience.

  • Grofar will provide you with a range of web based tools to assist you in arranging and carrying out your Work experience

This portal is housed on the Internet and can be accessed from any Internet-connected computer or mobile with a web-browser. No special software is required.

What to expect

Students using Grofar will be sent emails inviting them log on to the Grofar system. Log on using your college email address and the College password that you currently use, log on initially using microsoft. You will then be able to enter the details of your chosen work placement location in the Work Experience section of Grofar. The employer will then be sent an email by your work placement coordinator asking them to confirm the placement. They will then agree to the placement and the health & safety requirements before the placement commences.

Before, during and after the placement you will complete a digital “logbook” covering all aspects of the placement including setting yourself targets, adding health and safety information, completing an induction and also writing a diary of your experiences including the ability to upload photos of your time with the employer.

At the end of the placement the system will be used to capture feedback from students and employers and the final work experience logbook will be available to download and save.
